Pesticide Container Recycling Program

MCPR members again have a choice on who to use for general container recycling in 2010; Container Services Network (CSN) which is the Ag Container Recycling Council (ACRC) contractor or Genesis Poly Recycling. For minibulk recycling, members have the option to use CSN, Genesis Poly Recyclign or TRI-Rinse, Inc. Information on all three companies are listed below. Whoever you use to recycle your containers, MCPR encourages members to evaluate your pesticide recycling vendor to ensure the firm is addressing two major issues: 1) that the company has a system that tracks and documents the containers once they leave your facility and that the plastic is handled legally and safely including ultimate use restricted to end use products that tests have shown minimize any pesticide residue exposure to humans, and 2) that the company adheres to all ANSI/ASABE S596 Standards: Recycling Plastic Containers from Pesticides and Pesticide-Related Products. The Ag Container Recycling Council (ACRC) is the national organization that has organized and funds the ag pesticide container recycling program for the industry in the USA and has ensured MCPR that those systems and documents are in place for their vendor, CSN. Genesis Poly Recycling has indicated to MCPR, their intent to document and fulfill these rigorous requirements in their system.

EPA Pesticide Container and Containment Rule: Refillable Container Requirements

U. S. EPA published the final Pesticide Container and Containment (PCC) Rule in August 2006. The Rule seeks to provide sound stewardship practices and national consistency for pesticide labeling, container design, repackaging and storage.
Download a fact sheet and checklist (from CLA), which discusses critical aspects of the Rule that affect selection, maintenance and use of refillable containers for pesticides.
Download the CLA poster which gives details on the new container requirements.

The 2009 CPM Short Course and MCPR Trade Show provided two separate programs featuring an EPA staff presentation on the practical considerations as well as the new rule requirements for minibulks. MCPR has a video complementary for MCPR members from a similar EPA presentation which documents the critical aspects of the selection, maintenance and use of refillable pesticide containers which is effective August 16, 2011. Please email  jessi@mcpr-cca.org  to request a copy of the DVD.
